BOSTON, MA – February 17, 2022 – A survey of Massachusetts app-based rideshare and delivery drivers found that 81% of drivers would vote yes on the proposed ballot question that would protect their flexibility while adding historic new benefits. The survey was conducted by Beacon Research in January and February of 2022 and included more than 400 driver responses.

Survey findings showed that:

  • Significant majorities of every subgroup of drivers support the ballot proposal, with the highest support coming from women (86%), drivers of color (83%), those without college degrees (87%), and drivers who are parents with school-aged children (87%).
  • Drivers continue to prefer independent contractor status over an employee model, with 71% in support of independent contractor status.
  • 79% of those surveyed would recommend driving with one of the rideshare or delivery apps to their friends or family, with percentages at more than 85% among both women and Latino drivers.

The Flexibility & Benefits for Massachusetts Drivers committee is working to ensure app-based rideshare and delivery drivers can continue to work whenever they want, wherever they want, as long as they want, and on as many platforms as they want, all while offering historic new company-paid benefits.
